At Ideaware we are looking for a mid-senior Ruby on Rails Developer to join a fast-growing health and wellness company that’s transforming the way people manage their well-being. Through innovative telehealth solutions and smart digital tools, the team delivers personalized weight-management programs and medication plans tailored to each individual. In this role, you’ll play a key part in facilitating the company's commitment to offering virtual medical consultations, personalized medication plans, and wrap-around support including nutrition coaching, mental-health resources and fitness guidance.
This is a full-time, fully remote position, based in Latin America, where you will be working closely with cross-functional teams to design, build, and scale products used by thousands of users. Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications, ensuring clean, efficient, and scalable code.
Develop RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs to support web and mobile clients.
Integrate third-party APIs and internal services, such as payment systems, authentication providers, or analytics tools.
Implement unit and integration tests (RSpec, Minitest, or similar frameworks) to ensure high reliability and maintainable code.
Optimize performance through database query tuning, caching strategies (Redis, Memcached), and background job queues (Sidekiq, Resque).
Troubleshoot and debug production issues quickly and effectively.
Participate in code reviews, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.
Document features and technical processes clearly to support team transparency and onboarding.
Work with product managers and designers to understand requirements, refine user stories, and estimate work.
Communicate progress clearly in stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
Stay up to date with Ruby, Rails, and related ecosystem updates.
Qualifications
• 3 to 5 years of professional experience developing web applications using Ruby on Rails in production environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven track record of delivering and maintaining production-quality code in agile or fast-paced environments.
• Strong knowledge of Ruby and the Rails framework, including Active Record, MVC structure, and RESTful design principles.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs; familiarity with GraphQL is a plus.
• Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including query optimization and database design.
• Experience with background job systems like Sidekiq or Resque.
• Understanding of caching mechanisms (Redis, Memcached) to improve application performance.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (such as React, Vue, or Stimulus) to collaborate with frontend developers.
• Experience writing automated tests using RSpec, Minitest, or similar frameworks.
• Knowledge of version control using Git and experience working with pull requests and code reviews.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or similar).
• Basic understanding of Docker or containerized applications is preferred.
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher (able to communicate effectively in written and spoken form in professional settings).
